Alternate Login for Canvas – Ensure you ALWAYS have access

Sitting panda

While our District aims to always have the Canvas login page available, there are times when upgrade or maintenance must be performed to the network, and Canvas’ Single Sign-On will be temporarily down as a result.

Ensure Access

To ensure you continue to have access to Canvas even during a network outage at Coast District, please complete these two tasks now, and encourage your Summer students to complete them:

  • Make sure you have set up the password for your alternative Canvas login with college email.
  • Add your personal (non-college) email in Canvas settings.

Establish Alternate Login Credentials

To set up an alternative Canvas login using your college email account, you will need to establish a password:

  1. Go to Canvas login with college email page. Bookmark this page for easy access later.
  2. Click on the “Password help” link, enter your college student email, click “Request Password,” and then close your browser.
  3. Click the password reset link received in your email.
  4. You will be directed to a password reset page. In the first form, field select your email address. Then enter a new password.
  5. NOTE: After resetting your password you will be re-directed to another webpage. Close that browser window and open a new one.
  6. Access the Canvas login with college email page again. Enter your email address and password, to check that you can log in without difficulty via this method, in the event of a network outage.

Add a Non-College Email to Your Canvas Account

It is also strongly recommended to add your personal (non-college) email to your Canvas account. During an outage, it may not be possible to recover lost or forgotten password for your alternative Canvas login if a personal email address is not configured in Canvas. Personal email in Canvas can be added after logging into Canvas.

  1. Click on ‘Account’ icon on the top left then select ‘Settings’.
  2. Click ‘Email address’ link next to the plus icon.
  3. Enter your personal email in the pop up window and press ‘Register Email’.
  4. Click on the confirmation link that will be sent to your personal email.
